about

I had dropped out of art school and was living in my parents' basement in the suburbs, working at the downtown Co-Op grocery store. On the weekends i basically camped at Scotty's house, where we were getting very deep into all these old surf compilation records he'd acquired. I was pretty lonely during the week and this was recorded in my parents' basement on one of those nights. I tapped out a beat with drumsticks on a dartboard then added two clap-tracks using the 4-track, bounced them down to one track, then added two more clap tracks and bounced them again. Then i added another clap track and bass, and bounced them again, then two guitar tracks, using this beautiful green gretch-looking no-name surf hollowbody guitar. When i did the second guitar part i remember for whatever reason not being able to hear the first guitar track....and they turned out to be sort of accidentally sympathetic in eerie ways. Then i added a track of loon sounds and waves, cause that's what i did in those days :)

They are sometimes found brooding, pupils wide as saucers, in a corner of the Ship & Anchor, speaking in tongues. People do double-takes when they see what Pine Tarts are wearing. They have been spotted on midsummers eve on Banff Avenue with an elk skeleton ... more
